The FBI has put out warning about the last internet scam. Turns out crooks & scammers are replacing QR codes with fakes ones. This means when you hold your phone up to the fake QR code your information gets transmitted to the bad guys. There’s lots of talk about this on #Reddit. One person noted, “scammers have been doing this world wide at restaurants since the beginning. They are replacing menu QR codes with  malicious, copycat links. This situation is also happening with outdoor posters and signage.” Sugarinvestigator, who posts on the Reddit subgroup “technology,” said, “People are even putting their own QR stickers on parking meters covering up the local council QR code/sticker as well as other outdoor posters and advertisements.” Hopefully someone told the young woman using her phone that she was making a big mistake connecting with a QR code out on the street. So maybe it’s a good idea to top using QR codes.
