“The opioids are killing us,” says Marvin Washington, a Super Bowl champ, in a recent interview with Benzinga Editor Javier Hasse. And this is a man who knows pain. “Not the kind that comes and goes,” Washington tells Javier Hasse. “It’s the kind that lingers. The kind that burrows deep into your body and settles in for the long haul. The kind that every former NFL player knows far too well.”
Marvin Washington, a defensive end who played for the New York Jets, the Denver Broncos and the San Francisco 49ers absorbed hit after hit during his 11 year career. And for decades the NFL dealt with this problem by loading up the players with opioids. Washington reports that the opioid pills were everywhere – in the trainer’s room, in the locker, pills before practice, pills before games, pills before bed. Many players became addicted. Washington knew there had to be a better way and that way was cannabis. Washington saw it happening in real-time and he knew cannabis was a better, healthier way to deal with the pain experienced by professional football players.
