Just a day ago the FBI  issued an urgent warning about a new scam. It turns out criminals are out on the street replacing QR codes with fake ones. If you put your phone on the fake one your information gets transmitted immediately to the bad guys. On Reddit “Sugarinvestigator” said the following: “They have put their own QR stickers on parking meters, covering up the code placed by the city or town.” Another person noted, “Scammers have been doing this world wide at restaurants for a long time. They’re replacing menu QR codes with  malicious, copycat links.” So watch out for restaurants and also outdoor posters and signage where crooks can place their own QR code over the real one. The lady in the picture scanning a QR code with her phone could be giving her bank and credit card information to crooks in Russia, Nigeria, China and God knows where else. So maybe cool it with the QR codes. And next time you’re at a restaurant and they want you to use a QR code to access the menu, ask for the paper menu instead.
