Turns out this era we’re in of “constant stimulation” is taking a toll on our mental and physical health. A recent episode of the “The Pulse” on National Public Radio (NPR) featured an interview with neuroscientist Mark Berman. Berman is the author of Nature and the Mind: Finding Focus in an Unfocused World. Berman’s premise is that with all the overwhelming online distractions bombarding us all day (think TikTok and Reddit) are brains are getting worn out. “We’re asking too much of our overstimulated brains,” Berman tells us. In the interview Berman outlines a surefire way to give our brains a rest. It won’t surprise you that the first thing we need to do is limit use of our “devices.” And then Berman says we should fill up that time with more interactions with nature. And he’s got lots of ideas how we can do just that – everything from walking in a park or a beach to working in the dirt planting a garden or putting lots of plants around your home.

Here’s the link to The Pulse interview with Mark Berman. Hope you can listen in and try the tips – they work.

We were so inspired by the benefits we can all get by interacting more with nature, we created this video.
