It turns out cannabis can help children suffering with autism. From our friends at 420 INTEL, we learn that while epilepsy is on the list of approved illnesses that qualify for medical marijuana, autism is not on that list. But that could all be changing as officials hear more stories about children like Jaxsyn Carwile who has suffered with autism since he was two years old.  His mother, Tiffany Carwile, explained that as his symptoms accelerated, the medication he was prescribed made it worse.

“It was like a snowball effect after his diagnosis,” said Tiffany.  “My son at one point was ingesting about 300 pills a month and he was only five years old. Every pill caused side effects that deemed more pills.”

It wasn’t until 2019 that Jaxsyn qualified for medical cannabis after being diagnosed with epilepsy. In Ohio, autism is still not on the list of the 25 medical conditions that have been approved for medical cannabis.

“The change in him is astounding,” said Tiffany. “I was able to hear my son talk for the first time, he tells me that he loves me, he tells me that he’s happy and I’ve never heard that because my son was completely nonverbal before.”

Tiffany is working with Ohio State Rep Juanita Brent to get autism on the list of approved conditions for medical cannabis. The good news? The bill looks like it has a good chance of passing.
