The world just lost another superstar in the world of music celebrating cannabis. D’Angelo has joined other weed greats Ozzie Osbourne and Tom Shipley of “One Toke Over the Line” fame who died recently. D’Angelo created “Brown Sugar”, one of the most popular weed songs of all time that is still revered by cannabis lovers worldwide. At first glance the lyrics seem to be about D’Angelo’s sexual relationship with a very seductive woman. But if you listen closely, he’s really singing about “hitting it” and “Chocolate Thai.” D’Angelo was born in Virginia and dropped out of school as a teenager to try to break into the music industry. He first came to fame after co-producing Black Men United’s 1994 single “U Will Know.” He released his debut album “Brown Sugar” in 1995.
CBS News did several stories on D’Angelo. Here’s the LINK to one.
