Most of the advances in medical cannabis and the repeal of race-based and destructive “drug laws” has come about as the result of a lot of hard work and sacrifice. Visionaries like Mandelbrot (a.k.a. Ras Truth – no first name available) and Eddy Lepp, predicted some of the problems that come with commercialization and industrialization. Mostly the wealthy individuals and financial interests taking over have no interest in cannabis or the people and culture that know it, love it and surround it.
Most experts agree that no large company will ever be able to produce the quality cannabis that comes from an expert grower who is charge of his or her entire operation (like Sebastian pictured above) and unconcerned with getting rich, 4th quarter earning reports or cutting corners to make more money. This is not to suggest there are no ethical cannabis companies who want to make money and do the right thing at the same time.
Consider the words of Eddie Lepp who said, “The Scotts fertilizer company is getting involved—this is a billion-dollar company. And there’s no way to get around it; America is based on capitalism, and it always has been. So I’m not at all surprised that there are people who want to make money off of marijuana. Personally, I don’t have any trouble with that.” But it’s up to us to face the fact that corporations can make a lot of money by producing, marketing and selling cannabis and they are likely to use their power increase their profits by making sure it’s illegal to grow our own plants. Together we need to make sure this does not happen.
