In the U.S. newspapers are disappearing. It would be a full blown crisis in any country with a “democratic” system of government. People need to be informed to make good choices. But now it looks like the country’s major newspapers and other reliable news sources are in big trouble. The Washington Post has been firing longtime editors and reporters. The Los Angeles Times laid off 20% of its workforce and Buzz Feed got rid of their news division. Even cable news shows and National Public Radio are in trouble. So where are Americans getting their “news these days?” It’s pretty simple. They’re not. Instead they are feasting on silly even gross entertainment, constant propaganda and straight-out lies coming from every direction. A recent survey found that 18% of Americans get their news on TikTok. How can that be happening? There is no real news on TikTok. Andrew Heyward, a former CBS News president, had this to say: “It’s not just disturbing. It’s dangerous.”
