This is all about “BIOCHAR”. It looks a lot like burned toast, but it turns out when you mix in all the garbage, leaves, and other organic waste together, burn it at a very high heat and then mix that stuff in with the dirt it’s like you put your plants on steroids.  Countries and companies are becoming aware of the benefits of biochar, something you can make in your own back yard, This gritty pile of black stuff you see in the picture below is actually a “miracle grow” for cannabis plants.

Philip Drost, a reporter at  CBC Radio (Canadian Broadcasting Company) in Vancouver,  recently talked to  Greg Porteous (pictured here), who became aware early on about the dramatic impact biochar could have on plants. Porteus told Drost that biochar is a charcoal-like substance you get after turning up the heat and burning things like wood, sewage sludge and all kinds of plants . He makes it in his own backyard in Courtenay, B.C., where he has a kiln he bought online. In goes the organic matter, like brush or old wood pallets, high heat is applied with little to no oxygen and, since there is minimal fire, the fuel is turned into biochar.

If you are grower you will want to listen to Philip Drost’s interview with Greg Porteus. You’ll be making your own biochar before long.  Here’s the LINK
