Alzheimer’s disease is a neurodegenerative illness caused by the buildup of extracellular plaques made of a proteinaceous material called amyloid in the brain. Alzheimer’s impacts the portion of the brain associated with learning so a common symptom is “trouble remembering.” As the disease progresses symptoms become more severe including disorientation, confusion, violent outbursts and other behavior changes.
