As the fight for decriminalization and legalization of cannabis rolls on, a lot of people are starting to notice something peculiar. In many states where cannabis has been “decriminalized” there are still onerous and lengthy prison sentences, accompanied by massive fees and fines for anyone that decides to grow cannabis at home.
So maybe the best way to think about the fight for legalization and the end to the destructive drug war and all the falacious misinformation is to think about the battle as an offensive with several fronts where we have not won.
Until the federal government removes cannabis (which they insist on calling ‘marijuana’ for some reason) from the Schedule One list, it can not be “legal” or at least not entirely.
The fight for decriminalization/legalization at the state level is going pretty well with some problem spots, but we must remain focused on legislation at the state level.
Until there are no criminal penalties, fees or fines associated with humans growing harmless vegetables, the battle is not yet won and the pressure must continue and get stronger.
