David Johnson posted this 4th of July Day message on his “Cannabis Lovers United” Facebook Group page. It’s an important reminder to all of us that on the 4th of July – a day we celebrate our freedoms and democracy – there’s still too many people in jail for cannabis offenses.
“While many will be celebrating their freedom tomorrow, some members of our cannabis community won’t be able to because they are still locked up,” David notes. “Not only do we need to free the plant, but we more importantly need to free the people paying a heavy price for participating in our culture. So light one up for those who can’t on the 4th of July and stay lit!”
Cannabis is not a crime.
But you know what is?
Locking people in cages for something that’s sold legally on the other side of the street.
This image says it all.
One guy behind bars. One neon dispensary sign glowing in the background.
Same plant. Different reality.
Still happening in 2025.
Some of us get to build brands, roll joints, make art, and live free with weed in hand.
Others are serving time — real time — just for having it.
Let that sit for a second.
This July 4th, while the fireworks pop and the flags wave…
I’m thinking about the people who never got a chance to light up legally.
You don’t have to be loud about it.
Just remember. Talk about it. Share this.
Say it out loud once in a while: CANNABIS IS NOT A CRIME.
Free the plant. Free the people.
