Dangerously depressed circus elephants are being given full spectrum cannabis oil to help with the crippling stress that sometimes makes it hard to perform for crowds. Scroll down to watch the YouTube video – it’s hysterical. The story, from a zoo in Poland, ran recently on the USA Today website. But why are elephants stressed out? Probably because in ancient cultures, bears and elephants and other magnificent creatures that used to walk the Earth were considered Gods – or at least the equals of people.
If you’ve ever wondered why that is – just look into the eyes of an elephant. They seem like windows to a different consciousness and that might be why Hindus worship an Elephant God called Ganesh (also called Ganesha). She’s the one with the trunk you pray to for good luck with your 401K or high marks on your exam. Back when man and animals shared the Earth and before the God of Abraham allegedly told mankind the Earth was literally his, we considered animals to be our equals, if not our betters.
Then came the Enlightenment, the industrial revolution and P.T. Barnum. Now when people see these massive Gods that once walked the Earth, they’re usually filthy, chained to a post and forced to do stupid tricks for the humans that don’t find the circus equally depressing and infuriating.
Sadly, after what we’ve done to our home, or Mother, or whatever you consider this planet that we inhabit, for most of us the circus is our only chance to see elephants and other endangered species up close. But you don’t have to look too hard at an elephant in captivity to see the stress. Elephants are highly intelligent and social creatures and they may understand they got royally screwed when they’re being loaded or unloaded off of trucks in places like Cleveland and Phoenix.
We’re not militant animal rights activists here or anything but it would be great to see the animal zoo go the way of the human zoo. It was not uncommon at the turn of the century (1900) to able to see exhibits at the zoo called “African tribesman” or “Plains Indian,” featuring non-white human beings in pens and cages. That sounds like a stressful job and these circus elephants are definitely stressed out. Hopefully the RSO oil they’re getting can help take the edge off.
What would be really great is if we humans understood something about why and what we’ve done to the animal kingdom and what that means for our very survival. But that’s probably a pipe dream. When was the last time you heard someone mention the “Insect Apocalypse?”
But at least these magnificent creatures with long trunks and tusks and eyes so deep they seem to be windows to another universe are getting welcome relief from full spectrum cannabis oil. They probably took some oil before the listened to this Beethoven concert. Watch the YouTube video below to see it happen.
