At YourCanna-Club we spent a couple of hours looking for a song that would capture the spirit of Martin Luther King that we could post today. We thought this one from Nina Simone was the best – The King of Love is Dead. You can hear the pain in her voice. The song was written by her bass player, Gene Taylor, immediately following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in April 1968. Simone and her band performed this tribute just three days later on April 7, 1968, at the Westbury Music Fair.
