For instance they know cannabis is good food. As Peter Tosh once sang, “Birds eat it, ants love it. fowls eat it, goats love to play with it…” Most people are familiar with the high levels of intelligence exhibited by species like dolphins (dolphin language “exhibits all the design features present in the human spoken language, this indicates a high level of intelligence and consciousness) and crows (they can ponder the content of their own minds, a manifestation of higher intelligence.)

It’s not really clear how the orangutans figured out that Dracaena cantleyi, an unremarkable-looking shrub with stalked leaves is great for aches and pains. The orangutans chew the leaves into a paste and rub it on sore knees and elbows. This is more common than people think. Even caterpillars that get infected with parasitic flies seek out and eat plant substances that are toxic to the parasite.

Despite all this some people don’t think animals are very smart. The fact that reptiles, mammals and even insects have figured out how to use Mother Nature’s free pharmacy so effectively would suggest that this idea is probably incorrect. If it was true how would people’s dogs always know that they’re leaving for a trip like three or four days ahead of time with the sad-eyes guilt trips?
