Rick Simpson was diagnosed in 
2002 with cancer. After having no success with conventional medical treatments, Simpson decided to try the oil made from the flowers on the cannabis plant that he had heard about. After just a couple of days Rick sensed his cancer had started to get better. In a month it appeared to be gone.
Rick Simpson was determined to share what he had experienced with as many people as possible, but when the story went public the harassment started. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) destroyed over 1600 of his plants that he was about to harvest to make into the life-saving oil for friends and family. He was charged with possessing and trafficking marijuana. His trial began on September 10th, 2007. He had over 10 expert witnesses ready to testify on his behalf but the judge refused to allow them to speak and their testimony was never part of the public record.
