There’s so many issues that we Americans just can’t move forward on and the battle over the legalization of cannabis is at the top of the list. So despite states voting to legalize everywhere, here in New York, in just one month, police raided hundreds of weed stores seizing over $10.4 million dollars worth of weed products for sale and issuing $23.4 million in fines. 325 other shops in the city were given warnings. Ashley Southall, a reporter at The New York Times, does a deep dive into the situation and anyone involved in the cannabis craziness should read this article. Here’s the LINK. “Similar scenes have played out across New York City as a task force led by the Sheriff’s Office has flexed its new emergency powers to lock down unlicensed cannabis shops, which officials recently estimated outnumbered licensed retailers in the city by about 2,900 to 62,” Southall writes. “Critics of the city’s crackdown, many of them lawyers representing smoke shop owners, say the authorities are trampling on owners’ constitutional rights by seizing their businesses before their cases can be heard in court.”
Recently, Cynthia and Sebastian from YourCanna-Club, decided to take a walk uptown from the Upper West Side in New York City to see what was happening. The photo you see, Sebastian with his torn Achilles tendon peering into a window of a shop he had been to a couple of days before, is just one of the scores of shops Cynthia and Sebastian walked by that a week ago were hustling businesses. It was quite a site. It looked like COVID was back.
