Because dancing is so much fun and good for our physical and mental health, YourCanna-Club is hosting a “dance party” every week. When we get enough songs and videos together our plan is to make a play list so you can be the  DJ at your own party. Today we’re featuring one of the best – Eddie Murphy and Rick James “Party all the Time.”

On August 6, 2004, Rick James, whose song “Mary Jane” is still a  beloved anthem for the cannabis crowd, was found dead by his full-time caretaker in his Hollywood home. He was 56-years-old. James’ death struck the music world like a tidal wave. In the 1980s, the “Super Freak” singer had propelled funk out of the shadows and on to center stage. He sold over 10 million records, won a Grammy Award, and inspired countless artists. But Rick was a wild man. Once he described himself as an “icon of drug use and eroticism.” A lot of his fans were pretty sure he died of an overdose, but it turned out to be a heart attack despite the fact the toxicology report revealed he had nine different drugs in his system including including cocaine and meth.

Click HERE to watch Jimmy Kimmel’s interview with Eddie Murphy about the wild goings on at Rick James farm in upper state New York when they recorded “Party All The Time” in the middle of a raging blizzard. Turns out Eddie was snowed-in at James’ house for 2 weeks. It must have been quite a scene with the quiet, reserved Eddie Murphy making music with wild man Rick James. At least Eddie lived through the 2 weeks and now can tell us all about it. The Rick James segment  starts at 7:05 and ends at 8:40.

And don’t forget to dance even if you are alone. Recently the prestigious Harvard Health Newsletter reported that dancing has all the same benefits as other forms of cardio exercise including lowering blood pressure, building muscle and bone, increasing aerobic capacity, and improving the ratio of “good” to “bad” cholesterol. In addition, dancing can reduce anxiety and help alleviate depression. And that’s not all. Studies also indicate that mastering dance movements can help boost memory and increase problem-solving skills. Also dancing gives us a sense of social connection that helps alleviate loneliness and isolation.  Click HERE to read the full report from the Harvard Health Letter. And don’t forget the most important thing – dancing is lots of fun.

So every week YourCanna-Club will host a new dance party and we want you to come. If you have a great dance tune you want to recommend for our playlist email it to info@yourcanna-club.com and we’ll get it on the list.
