Recently our friends at THE LEVER posted a story about how A.I. is taking over and in many cases ruining our lives especially in industries like the insurance business where companies are using bogus A.I. stats to deny justified claims.

Former legal aid attorney Kevin De Liban went to The Lever with his story. And man, does he have some stories to tell. De Liban was so alarmed that Trump removed all federal safeguards for AI. his first day in office that he started a nonprofit – TechTonic Justice – to help people fight back. The goal is to provide training for lawyers, educate advocates, and help affected people — those denied benefits like health care or social security — get their benefits back. “De Liban noted: “He’s building resources to help affected communities hold these faceless, impersonal systems accountable and spreading the word about the problem in publications like The Hill and on NPR.”

Eventually we turned to lawyers at Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, who learned that the Texas’ automated verification system, developed by the multinational consulting firm Deloitte, had made extensive and repeated errors, including issuing incorrect notices, wrongful denials, and losing paperwork.
