People who’ve been struggling in the cannabis world for decades pretty much yawned when Trump signed an executive order (EO) directing the Attorney General to expedite the process of rescheduling marijuana from a Schedule I to a Schedule III drug under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA).
First of all issuing an “executive order” for a matter Congress should be deciding is alarming. And isn’t moving cannabis from Schedule I to Schedule III a bunch of bullshit? One expert said that all Schedule III means is the rules for scientific studies have been loosened but people in the cannabis industry still would not be able to use the banking system. It’s almost like all the powerful players that want cannabis dead and gone – alcohol, tobacco, and big pharma – wrote the executive order. But it’s still an executive order. Plus to time this all to distract from the ongoing Epstein scandal – is beyond pathetic.
Maybe one positive thing is that now there can be legitimate scientific studies of this plant and its impact. People who use cannabis or products derived from cannabis for everything from back pain to sleeplessness to anxiety might not be aware of the fact that it is still illegal to study cannabis in the United States. Unless you are willing to tow the drug war line that cannabis is a “dangerous drug” as opposed to a useful plant – then funding your study is no problem. So up until now you could safely bet on the fact that the scientists you see in the picture are NOT studying cannabis if they are in the United States.
Don’t believe it? Check out these two studies and see if you can spot the difference. Hint – the one from UC San Diego says “WEED BAD!” and the European researchers’ one says “according to a peer-reviewed, double-blind study, cannabis is more effective for treating back pain than opioids.” I suppose the easiest way for people who don’t pay attention to this stuff to get their heads around this is the fact that medical cannabis research is not illegal in Europe but “Big Pharma” buying ads on TV is. Now check the the United States where cannabis research is illegal while ads for everything from boner-pills to meds for schizophrenics is ubiquitous.
