Charlotte Figi, a young girl who suffered with a catastrophic type of epilepsy, became proof-positive of the powerful healing potential of cannabis oil after Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent, told Charlotte’s story in the documentary film, “Weed.” Links to the film and a CNN report are below.
In the film, which aired several years ago and Gupta produced, we meet Charlotte, a child whose life was plagued by horrific seizures but was able to gain relief from her suffering with cannabis oil. She died when she was 13 (her parents never expected for her to live that long). But even at that young age her positive spirit and bravery prompted people to name a popular cannabis strain in her honor – Charlotte’s Web.
After her death, the outpouring of accolades for this young girl were huge. Here’s just one tribute, posted by the Stanley brothers, on their website.
“Charlotte was ten feet tall and carried the world on her shoulders.”
Inspiring is a lacking word, as are courageous and vivacious and strong and beautiful. She was divine. She grew, cultivated by a community, protected by love, demanding that the world witness her suffering so that they might find a solution. She rose every day, awakening others with her courage, and with that smile that infected your spirit at the cellular level.”
Charlotte became a symbol of the ability of cannabis to help with. variety illnesses and other issues like insomnia, anxiety and pain after CNN aired Sanjay Gupta’s film, “Weed.” Her story and the relief she got from the seizures with the oil, has had a big impact on the public’s growing acceptance of cannabis for both medical and recreational use.
