One of the coolest things about the rediscovery of cannabis as medicine is that we can now tap into a tradition of healing that’s thousands of years old. Think of it as a kind of connection or even communication with our ancestors.  Who did the Romans get all their brilliant irrigation and city-planning ideas from? The Sumerians? The Annunaki? Why is there evidence of a sophisticated urban culture, complete with performing arts centers and astrologically aligned temples at Gobekli Tepe when archeologists say that at the time we were still hunter gatherers? And how did the Pharaohs of Egypt get the cocaine from the New World found in their mummified bodies during their autopsies when historians tell us Columbus had yet to “discover America?”

These are some of the questions people with an interest in ancient or pre-history ask themselves and like to watch and listen to people like Graham Hancock (pictured here). Hancock says that humans are a species with amnesia because we know so little about our own history. There is a credible argument to be made that people like Homer and Josephus knew more about the world than we do today as we try to interpret our history and reality through CNN, Facebook and the rest. Graham Hancock is a fiery, passionate British sociologist and journalist who studies ancient cultures and believes we have a right to sovereignty over our own bodies. His books and lectures have influenced people all over the world. If you are not familiar with Graham Hancock and his vast body of work, click HERE.

Another hot topic of debate among historians is the question of whether Jesus really existed or if he was an invention of the guys that wrote the source materials for the Old and New Testaments. Religious Christians believe the Nazarene was born to a virgin and this son of God was crucified then raised from the dead. Others point out that there is no record of this at all and the Romans were pretty big on writing things down and keeping meticulous records.

Some believe Jesus was not the King of the Jews or the son of God but rather a teacher, a healer and probably the best street preacher that ever lived.

If you read interviews or watch videos of parents talking about the relief they experienced after they found out cannabis was an effective treatment for debilitating disorders and painful seizures impacting their kids, they frequently describe the result as a miracle. It’s entirely possible that Jesus – we’re still trying to find his real last name in the Judea White Pages and what he was doing in India for 20 years – was nothing more than a human being with a passion for healing and had a really good grower who tended the plants used to make the oil.

There is an episode of Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” where Larry gets his elderly father some cannabis to smoke because his glaucoma is so bad that he can’t see the ball game on TV. Ten minutes later the father’s calling balls and strikes. Is this not essentially a “blind man who can now see?” and a different way to interpret stories about miracles and healers for those that don’t buy into the “water into wine” stuff?

The idea is that when we use oils today, we make a kind of connection with our ancestors and our history that brings us closer to ourselves and one another.

Big Pharma tends to do precisely the opposite.
