You may have already heard of Quawntay “BOSCO” Adams – a man who managed to survive and even thrive despite the inconceivable obstacles thrown in his path. When you learn about what this man has gone through, the story is even more remarkable. Just this week he got the news that the film BOSCO, which is based on his memoir, Chasin’ Freedum, has shot to the top of Peacock’s “Most Watched Films” list.
Quawntay’s father was a founding member of the Crips, a notorious California gang. He was only in the 7th grade when his dad forced him to be a lookout at an armed robbery. It went bad, the police showed up and everyone got arrested. Quawntay was now an official California “juvenile offender” and a middle school “dropout.”
Things get worse several years later when the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) sets up a reverse marijuana sting and Quawntay gets arrested, convicted and sentenced to 35 years in federal prison for “possession.” For most people their lives would be over, but this guy is not “most people.” With extraordinary bravery, discipline and focus, he managed to escape from solitary confinement in a federal prison not once but twice – feats that took years of clawing out an escape hole in the ceiling of his cell with a small saw he had smuggled into the prison in a book. When he got out of prison, Adams had a vision and started networking. “I was able to raise millions of dollars, put together an amazing cast of A-listers, and helped produce “BOSCO.”
His autobiography “Chasin’ Freedum” not only inspired the film BOSCO, but several documentaries as well. One was produced by National Geographic. His story is also featured on Morgan Freeman’s show: History’s Greatest Escapes: Season 2 – Alston City Escape. You can catch that
on Prime. And there’s his memoir, Chasin’ Freedum – that he wrote with an old pen on scraps of paper over the 13 years he was prison. It’s beautifully written and a page turner too. I couldn’t put it down. You can get Chasin’ Freedum on Amazon. Today Quawntay’s top priority is taking good care of his daughter (pictured here with her Dad) who’s in her third year of college and doing great.
So definitely check out the film BOSCO – it’s riveting and right up there with all the great prison break films – Escape from Alcatraz, Runaway Train, and The Shawshank Redemption. You can stream “BOSCO” on Peacock, Apple TV, and Amazon Prime.
