Here’s some tips from Ed Rosenthal (pictured here in his grow tent) widely considered to be one of the world’s leading experts on how to grow cannabis and take it from seeds and sticks to flowers and terpenes. We plan to post all of Ed’s grow tips, but if you need all the information now right now go to the Ed Rosenthal website. You might also want to subscribe to his newsletter. It’s a wealth of information for weed farmers.

How to Grow Your Own by Ed Rosenthal

First I want to encourage you to check out our 2025 Cannabis Indoor Growing Class where you’ll discover everything you need to know to get big yields growing inside. I want you to meet and learn from my friends Christian and Jackie, long-time outdoor cultivators who are trying their hand at indoor cultivation for the first time and  you can gain the same knowledge right alongside them. The first thing you need to do is choose a grow tent. Figure out how many plants you want and whether you have the right space for the right sized tent to grow them in. You can get 2’x 2’ tents for a few plants up to a large tent that’s 4 x 8 feet.  I recommend durable, lightproof materials with reflective interiors like Mylar to help with effective distribution of the light. Also try to get a tent with multiple access points and observation points.

Christian and Jackie have set up their Vivosun grow tent right in their home office, making it easy to keep their eye on the plants as they learn how the process works,” Ed notes. “During the winter, the tent is a heater, helping to warm their office and save on energy costs. Once summer rolls around, they plan to relocate the tent to their cooler basement. They are using a Vivosun Smart Grow Tent Kit in combination with a 5-Gallon DWC (Deep Water Culture) Hydroponic System Kit that works well for your first indoor grow. The kit includes the AeroLight Wing, AeroWave fan system, and GrowHub controller. The GrowHub Controller monitors light schedules, fan speed, temperature, and humidity all through a smartphone app. The DWC component delivers an oxygenated nutrient solution directly to the roots of your plant. We highly recommend these kits if you are starting an indoor cannabis grow operation.”
