In a small community in South Carolina the enthusiasm for getting rid of pills and learning more about the healing benefits of plant-based medicine is off the charts. And it all has to do with connecting with the herbal and plant-based medicines that their ancestors used back in Africa. Written by reporter Melissa Hellmann and published in the prestigious UK journal The Guardian, we learn that in March 2020, they held their first herbalism conference at a small black-owned farm in Charleston. 80 people showed up. The next year 160 people attended and its popularity just keeps growing. One enthusiast noted that herbal remedies have become more important than ever as state and federal regulations continue to limit access to healthcare including birth control. Learning more about herbal remedies has made the community less reliant on the corporate health care system and big pharma.
