Today the great actor Chadwick Boseman would have been celebrating his birthday. He was in his early 40’s when he died of cancer. His film performances are the stuff of legend: Marvel Comics superhero TChalla (Black Panther), Jackie Robinson in 42 and Thurgood Marshall in the film Marshall. But most critics agree of all his outstanding performances the best by far was his portrayal of James Brown in the film, Get on Up. He did all the dancing himself, practicing the moves for months before they started filming. It is a legendary acting job right up there with some of the greats: Daniel Day Lewis in Lincoln or Marlon Brando in On the Waterfront. These gifted actors become the character they are playing and in the film, Chadwick Boseman becomes James Brown. He died of colon cancer in 2020 but he kept worked for four years after his diagnosis never telling anyone he was sick. I’ve seen this film probably 4 times but going to watch it again to honor Boseman on his birthday.
